Cookeville Gift of Life
Walk
The TN Kidney Foundation is
having its annual "Cookeville Gift of Life Walk" on
Saturday, October 2nd, 2010, at the Quad on the campus of TN
Tech. Angelo and Jennette Volpe have been asked to get a
group together to participate. From the comments and prayer
concerns of some members of our congregation, we think many
may want to support the walk. Registration begins at 8 am
and the walk at 9 am. For further information or to sign up
to participate, please contact the Volpe's at 526-9543. By
the way, it is not necessary to actually walk.
Living Waters for the World mission
For more information
about the church's efforts in improving household water quality for needy
persons in the Upper Cumberland, contact Bill Swim at
wswim@charter.net or the church
office at (931) 526-4424. So far, the group has participated in support of
the Appalachian Network of the
Living Waters for the
World in meetings in Frakes, KY and installations in Tazewell, TN.
Centennial Celebration
In
addition to the special music
commission for 2010, we
are still looking
for photos of people and places
for the centennial celebration. Please check the preceding link for a
list to see if you
or someone you know has photos and then contact us
so we can have a copy to include for the celebration.
Vacation Bible School
Vacation Bible School took
place June 6-8 from 5:30 pm for supper through 8 pm classes.
The children used 'Renew', an environmentally
focused program that uses the Parable of the Sower as the
basis for their study. Adults also had a class. This year's curriculum was based on the
parable of the sower and focuses on 'living green'. We had activities for children age preschool through middle
school and a class for adults. Each night began with a
light meal followed by classtime for the adults and
classtime, crafts and music for the children.
For nearly a half century, we have spearheaded a series of worship services during Holy Week with ministers and lay members of various local churches participating. This is in conjunction with a luncheon, prepared cooperatively, with proceeds dedicated to
Helping Hands of Putnam County and Meals on Wheels.

Palm Sunday
On Palm Sunday, March 28th, children participated in
reenacting the Bible story of Jesus arriving in Jerusalem on a donkey.
You may still find pictures of their reenactment from 2009 by clicking
on the photo to the right. There are also pictures of this year's Easter
egg hunt on that page as well.
Special Events
We traditionally serve regular Communion on the first Sunday of each month.
Throughout the year we observe special occasions, including Christmas Eve and Maundy Thursday services with Communion. We also participate in the annual Souper Bowl, Joy Offering, and One Great Hour of Sharing.
Our Second Sunday Dinner is a cooperative meal after worship on the second Sunday of each month throughout the year. Students and visitors are warmly invited to participate in this celebration of food and fellowship.
The congregation meets at Cane Creek for picnics, organized by the
Christian Education Committee.
Presbyterian Women
The Presbyterian Women's group meets once a month for Bible study and fellowship. They fund a scholarship for a deserving student each year. |
