CALL TO WORSHIP
Rev.
Erin Angel, Liturgist
Our
Lenten journey has begun; let us follow the example of Jesus.
Jesus listened for the voice of God in the wilderness.
Jesus followed the Holy Spirit and resisted temptation.
Following in the footsteps of Jesus, let us worship God.
*OPENING HYMN NO. 488 The God of Abraham Praise
*PRAYER OF CONFESSION
Almighty God, we come before you with no cause for pride. We care
more about daily bread than eternal salvation. We worship many gods
rather than serving you alone. We do not trust in your freely given
love. Forgive our many weaknesses and strengthen us that we might
resist the many temptations that lie ahead of us. In Christ’s name
we pray. Amen.
*RESPONSE: HYMN NO. 572 Lord, Have Mercy Upon Us
*ASSURANCE OF PARDON (from Psalm 27)
The
Lord is my light and salvation.
The
Lord will take us into his shelter.
We
shall see the goodness of the Lord.
We wait for the Lord with strength and courage.
*Gloria
Patri, P. 579
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost;
As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be,
world without end. Amen.

ANTHEM O Love, How Deep
Bradley Ellingboe
Oh,
love, how deep, how broad, how high, beyond all thought and fantasy,
That God the Son of God should take our mortal form for mortals’
sake!
For
us baptized; for us he bore his holy fast and hungered sore;
For
us temptation sharp he knew; for us the tempter overthrew!
For
us he rose from death again; for us he went on high to reign;
For
us he sent his Spirit here to guide, to strengthen, and to cheer.
All
glory to our Lord and God for love so deep, so high, so broad;
The
Trinity whom we adore forever and forevermore!
