CALL TO WORSHIP (from Psalm 72)
Rev. Erin Angel,
Liturgist
Blessed be the Lord, the God of Israel.
God
alone does powerful and wonderful things.
Blessed be God’s glorious name forever.
May
God’s glory multiply and fill the whole earth. Amen.
*OPENING HYMN NO. 68 What Star Is This, with Beams So Bright
*PRAYER OF CONFESSION
Almighty and most loving God, you sent stars and angels to guide the
way to your precious Son. You sent love and hope to a weary world.
Forgive us when we fail to recognize your signs and choose to follow
our own desires. Confront us again with our own sinfulness and cover
us with your grace. Help us to see the Christmas story in a new way.
Let us learn that in Christ we are forever changed. Remind us that
we can never go home the same way again. In Christ’s name we pray.
Amen.
*RESPONSE: HYMN NO. 572 Lord, Have Mercy Upon Us
*ASSURANCE OF PARDON (from Psalm 72)
The
Lord delivers the needy when they call.
God
delivers the poor and those without help.
God
saves the needy from oppression and violence.
God redeems their lives and they are precious in his
sight.
*Gloria
Patri, P. 579
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost;
As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be,
world without end. Amen.

ANTHEM O Morning Star, How Fair and
Bright Paul Thurmond
O
Morning Star, how fair and bright
Thou beamest forth in truth and light!
O
Sovereign meek and lowly!
Thou root of Jesse, David’s Son,
My
Lord and Savior, Thou hast won
My
heart to serve Thee solely!
Thou art holy, fair and glorious,
All-victorious, rich in blessing,
Rule and might o’er all possessing.
Thou heavenly brightness! Light divine!
O
deep within my heart now shine,
And
make Thee there an altar!
Fill me with joy and strength to be
Thy
member, ever joined to Thee
In
love that cannot falter!
Toward Thee longing doth possess me;
Turn and bless me; Here in sadness
Eye
and heart long for Thy gladness!
