*CALL TO
WORSHIP (from Psalm 42)
David Johnson,
Liturgist As a deer longs for flowing
streams...
So my soul longs for you, O Lord.
My soul thirsts for the living
God.
When shall I come and see the
face of God?
*OPENING
HYMN NO. 281 Guide Me, O Thou Great Jehovah
*PRAYER OF
CONFESSION
Almighty and most holy God, like
Elijah, we sometimes find ourselves weary, discouraged and afraid.
We feel that we have been faithful and diligent but we have not
gotten the response we wanted. Forgive us when we lose patience and
stop listening for your voice. Help us to recognize your voice when
you are calling out to us. Make your presence known to us and
provide the nourishment and refreshment we need to continue
following in the footsteps of your Son, Jesus. In Christ’s name we
pray. Amen.
*RESPONSE:
HYMN NO. 572 Lord, Have Mercy Upon Us
*ASSURANCE
OF PARDON (from Psalm 43)
Send out your light and your truth, O Lord.
Let them lead us to your holy
dwelling place.
Then we will praise you before
the altar of our God.
We shall praise the God who is
our help.
*Gloria Patri, P. 579
Glory be to the Father, and to
the Son, and to the Holy Ghost;
As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be,
world without end. Amen.

ANTHEM Eternal
Light Paul Thurmond
Text: Thomas Binney
(1798-1874)
Solo: Chelsea
Holland
Eternal light! Eternal light!
How pure the soul must be
When, placed within thy searching
sight,
It shrinks not, but with calm
delight
Can live, and look on thee!
The spirits that surround thy
throne
May bear the burning bliss;
But that is surely theirs alone,
Since they have never, never
known
A fallen world like this.
Oh how shall I, whose native
sphere
Is dark, whose mind is dim,
Before the ineffable appear,
And on my naked spirit bear
That uncreated beam?
There is a way for man to rise
To that sublime abode–
An off’ring and a sacrifice,
A holy spirit’s energies,
An advocate with God:
These, these prepare us for the
sight
Of holiness above;
The ones of ignorance and night
May dwell in the eternal light,
Through the eternal love.
