*CALL TO WORSHIP (adapted from Psalm 139) Pat Wilhelm, Liturgist
Lord you have searched us and you know us.
Even before we speak, you know what we will say.
There is no place we can go where you are not already there.
The darkest night is as bright as day to you.
Search us and test us, O Lord. Cleanse us from evil.
And lead us in the way to everlasting life.
*OPENING HYMN NO. 485 To God Be the Glory
*PRAYER OF CONFESSION
Lamb of God, who takes away the sins of the world, have mercy on us. Like New Year’s resolutions, our discipline falters and we disobey your commands. Our faith is flabby when put to the test; our courage vanishes in the face of temptation. Our muscles tighten up when called to action. While we profess loyalty, our bodies lack commitment. Forgive us and by the power of your Holy Spirit, renew us once more. In Christ’s name we pray. Amen.
*RESPONSE: HYMN NO. 572 Lord, Have Mercy Upon Us
Lord, have mercy upon us. Christ, have mercy upon us. Lord, have mercy upon us.
You are not your own, for you were bought with a price.
Christ mercifully paid the price for our sin.
Through Christ’s sacrifice, we may approach God as newly cleansed children.
We give thanks for God’s mercy and praise God’s holy name.
*GLORIA PATRI, P. 579
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost;
As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

ANTHEM Jesus Calls Us William H. Jude
Text: Cecil Francis Alexander
Jesus calls us o’er the tumult of our life’s wild, restless sea;
Day by day his sweet voice soundeth, saying, “Christian, follow me!”
As of old the apostles heard it by the Galilean lake,
Turned from home and toil and kindred, leaving all for Jesus’ sake.
Jesus calls us from the worship of the vain world’s golden store,
From each idol that would keep us, saying, “Christian, love me more!”
In our joys and in our sorrows, days of toil and hours of ease,
Still he calls, in cares and pleasures, “Christian, love me more than these!”
Jesus calls us! By thy mercies, Savior, may we hear thy call;
Give our hearts to thine obedience, serve and love thee best of all.
