First Presbyterian Church, U.S.A.
Cookeville, Tennessee
Mission
Habitat pictures - the Stewarts Our church has a strong commitment to its
Mission program, and supports both national and local needs. Among
these are: Helping Hands of
Putnam County,
Habitat for Humanity,
Creative Compassion, Rescue Mission, Genesis House, Mediation Services, Heifer Project,
UNICEF and General
Missions. We have also sponsored families from Bosnia and Vietnam.
A group of members of the First Presbyterian Church in Cookeville
gathered together recently to put on shingles, finish putting
boards over a roof and finish other details at a Habitat
for Humanities house on Edwards Lane, Jackson Passage. Above to the
right are some of the pictures taken at that time by Eliseo Rios.
Our church houses One World Market, an alternative gift shop,
where purchases count twice. Items from Serrv and Unicef
support the work of these service agencies, and the profits are
given to local service organizations such as Rescue Mission and
Clearing House.
One World Market also helps the church to promote the housing
ministry, Creative Compassion, with the sale of Kroger cards and
Heifer Project International with the sale of gift cards to send
much needed animals to needy villages.

A recent mission focus is the work of Grant Lovellette,
one of our church family, who is teaching English and Bible study to
gypsies (Roma) in Eastern Europe. In the pictures on the left, Grant
assists a child at a school in Szurte, Ukraine, where he taught
children from ages 5 to 17. Also included are pictures from a
baptism and a leadership meeting. He is currently in a new job in
Budapest, Hungary. You can find more information about his
endeavors at
