Religion & Culture
Sunday School Class

Within the framework of scripture and prayer, our class discusses poetry and art, literature and nonfiction books, and recent articles from a variety of sources. â€‹Our purpose is, in the words of one contemporary theologian, “to make sense of the world in the light of Christian belief and experience and to make sense of Christian belief in the light of our experience and knowledge of the world we live in.” Rev. Dick Neil

Currently Studying

On November 2, our class will discuss the article, “Ten Ways Christians Can Criticize Israel That Aren’t Antisemitic” (May 2024 issue). Rev Dick Neil will lead the discussion.

On November 9, Robert Brady will lead The Religion and Culture class in Part I of his 2-class presentation about popular music:  "From Woody Guthrie to the Drive By Truckers: Music and Social Consciousness (Part 1)."

December  2025, the Religion and Culture class will begin reading and studying the novel Cry, the Beloved Country, by South African writer Alan Paton. Written in 1948, the novel is set in pre-apartheid South Africa and tells the story of a black priest and a white farmer who must come to terms with a murder that involves both. Sam Glasgow and Heide Weidner will guide the study.
